Prairie Thistle Pipes & Drums is a teaching band.  We teach Great Highland Bagpipe methods to piping students.  We will happily teach piping and drumming to motivated students of all ages.  Piping students begin on a practice chanter, and beginner lessons take approximately 10-15 weeks.  At that point, depending on a student’s progress and aptitude, we will help decide whether it will be possible to continue advancing to actual bagpipes. The entire process, from beginners on the practice chanter, to actually playing pipes with the band, usually takes from 9 months to a year.  Lessons are given on Tuesday nights immediately prior to band practice.  Additional private lessons, for a nominal fee, are also available.  By providing lessons, it is our hope that students who become proficient on pipes and drums will then make the commitment to become part of our dynamic group.
