Prairie Thistle Pipes and Drums is based in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois and with members throughout central Illinois. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, registered with the State of Illinois, with the purpose of teaching and promoting highland bagpipe music and culture. We are wholly devoted to traditional bagpipes and drums heritage. Our official tartan is MacDonald of Clanranald (ancient). This tartan choice was heartily endorsed by Clan Donald, USA and officially approved by the Captain of Clanranald, Ranald Alexander MacDonald of Clanranald. Our band was officially incorporated during Fall 2006 and began public performances during the 2007 season. The 2008 video (at left) shows our band's beginnings. We've now more than doubled in size as we continue to teach, perform, and compete. We proudly participate in local parades and festivals as a band, as well as compete at various highland games. Our Grade V band is a member of the Midwest Pipe Band Association. Prairie Thistle Pipes and Drums is proud to bring the rich history of the Scottish Highlands to the prairie of Central Illinois. Our band hopes to become a cultural treasure and the pride of the citizens who support us. If you would like to be a sponsor, either privately, or through your business, please contact us. |
