Prairie Thistle Pipes and
Drums is a new band based in McLean County, Illinois and with members throughout
central Illinois. We are a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization,
registered with the State of Illinois, with the purpose
of teaching and promoting highland bagpipe music and culture. We are
wholly devoted to traditional pipes and drums heritage. Our official
tartan is
MacDonald of Clanranald. This tartan choice was heartily
endorsed by Clan Donald, USA and officially approved by the Captain of Clanranald, Ranald Alexander MacDonald of Clanranald.
Our band was officially
incorporated during Fall 2006 and plans to be ready for public performance
during the 2007 season. However, Prairie Thistle is not just a parade
and performance band. Several of our members have experience in
highland pipe band competition in the Midwest Pipe Band Association and the
Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. We plan to compete in Midwest
Pipe Band Association sanctioned contests during the 2007 season.
Watch for future
performances of Prairie Thistle Pipes and Drums as we bring the rich history
of the Scottish Highlands to the prairie of Central Illinois. Our band
will soon become a cultural treasure and the pride of the citizens who
support us. If you would like to be a sponsor, either privately, or
through your business, please
contact us.
